| Kevin said if I wanted I could post this at other sites I knew of. He's wanting to get 100 survey responses by Nov 4 for research he is doing for a book. I think he's already at the halfway point or there-abouts. If you can take the time, please take a look at his survey. - GameProf wrote:
- I’m a gamer and media professor writing a book on video games from a Christian perspective. One of my chapters is on video games and community, and to write it, I need your help!
I’ve set up a survey at http://app.fluidsurveys.com/surveys/kevinschut/games-community-christians/. It takes about 10 to 20 minutes to complete, and it’s all about how Christians play video games with other people and the kind of gaming communities they’re a part of. If you choose to participate, you may take the survey anonymously, and even if you choose to leave some identification, your real identity will remain completely confidential when I publish.
As an extra incentive, I’m offering all participants the chance to win a $50 gift certificate for Game Stop.
I really want to give Christian gamers a chance to speak for themselves about their gaming. This research is legit and above-board, the ethics of the project have been reviewed by the Research Ethics Board at my university (http://www.twu.ca), and as you can see from the questions, there’s nothing secret or weird going on here. However, if you’re not sure, you can check out my profile at (http://www.twu.ca/directory/faculty/kevin-schut.html) and you are welcome to send me emails about the project at ChristianGameCommunity@gmail.com (a temporary email that I’ll close when the project is over).
I need responses completed by Friday, November 4, although I may take a few late submissions. PLEASE HELP ME OUT AND CIRCULATE THIS ANNOUNCEMENT TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN THINK OF!
Thanks so much for your time!

Here's the bio from my faculty profile (http://www.twu.ca/directory/faculty/kevin-schut.html). I'll quote it, to save people having to go look (but you can if you want to see my school's website and my pic, of course):

- Kevin was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, and still cheers for the Oilers. After graduating from Calvin College, he married and taught overseas in schools for missionary kids in the Cote d'Ivoire and Hungary for three and a half years. He was overjoyed to have the opportunity to move back to Canada after grad school in Iowa (Go Hawks!) and still teach in a Christian university. He has three young daughters who love playing the Wii, PS3, and Xbox360 with him.
He writes about the intersection of communication, culture, media, technology and faith, primarily by talking about computer and video games. He has published articles or chapters on fantasy-role-playing computer games and masculinity, on computer games and myth, on the presentation of history in computer games, and on evangelicals and games. He has also guided interdisciplinary groups of students in designing and constructing small indie-style computer games.
As to the book project, God in the Machine: A Christian Exploration of Video Games (the working title--might not be the final version) is a book for Christians who want to thoughtfully engage games. It's very tentatively slated to come out in a little over a year (very early 2013) with Brazos Press. As a long-time gamer and critical scholar, I’m looking to do a balanced, faith-based take on the medium that looks seriously at the good and the bad of video games. Each chapter will talk about a different issue connected to games: religion, violence, gender, fantasy & addiction (a chapter I call “escape”), education, community, and the games industry.
I've been a member of the Christian Reformed Church (http://www.crcna.org) for all my life. I live in Abbotsford, BC, Canada, and attend Trinity Christian Reformed church (http://www.trinitycrc.ca). I love Jesus, and serving my family, community and church. I think that pretty much covers all the important, stuff, eh?
