I am one of the clan leaders, and I ran across your link while on XBL forums, thought I'd take a peek. Curiously similar stuff on your site. Honestly, when I first browsed your web pages I was a little irked, and also flattered by all the cut and paste articles from our site. (teamsoc.net)

All of the copied material took my initial thrill in seeing another Christian clan down a notch or two, but I'm still happy to see you guys in existence, and formed around the same ministry we are. I'd like to talk about the copying if the founder is available to talk privately. Please PM me here or on SoC's forums. Also curious how you all came to be- if anyone knows-were the founder/ founders previously members of SoC?

Why did it upset you? I would think that seeing another likeminded group of Jesus followers would bring you joy. Church websites do the same thing all the time. What exactly have we copied? Just rules and guidlines? How to Know Christ? I would think that would make a fellow Jesus imitator happy that there are other groups that are trying to reach more people for the Kingdom. Im sure that if it really bothers you that we have copied stuff that we will chance it. I will write a new set of rules, and how to know christ as well.

Are you really trying to justify this? I should be happy? (haven't I already explained that I am happy- I can be both happy about one thing and upset about another, right?) Just because we are Christians, doesn't give us permission to take from eachother without asking "for the kingdom." Even if this is what appears to happen in other church websites- its still not right. I get it that you took my post as an attack- bringing up a wrong feels like an attack, and it makes sense that someone would come along with a defensive posture out of loyalty to the clan. But I'm not attacking- I'm merely pointing out something that was done, and needs fixing. I'm sure you're fine people, but fine people make mistakes too.

Before I go any further, is there someone else I can talk to nichols, or are you a founder/leader? I'd really rather talk in PM as I have another motive for being here. I want to pave a way for introducing our clans together. This could be a serious pothole and before I tell our Xbox group about yours, I'd like to smooth thing so we get off on the right foot.

Nichols, I appreciate that you'll write a new set of rules, How to know Christ. Here is what I found that was copied:

The homepage is a near word for word copy of our home page. With the exception of a small revision we made about "knowing and following Christ", your clan name, and "xbox live" are the only differences- substituted for our name and "our servers."

I think I would rather keep this conversation public. If you really wanted to keep it private, and not come across as somewhat of an attack or come across as agressive you would have simply sent a pm to someone asking who the founder was. Then you would have addressed your issues with the founder. Which is what you should have done (Matthew 18:15-17). Now I apologize for my previous commits. I shouldn’t have said some of the things I said. Our site gives a short history of how we came to be. I’m sure that the founder wiggly dot would have no problem talking to you and giving more details about how we came to be.

The rules and guidelines I understand. Here is a problem I have about the knowing Christ section. Again I have no problem writing up a new one (I also wasn‘t the one who copied anything from your clan). My question/issue is can we copy write the gospel? Should the person have put it into his/her own words? Yeah. Maybe they couldn’t though. Maybe the person when they were setting things up wasn’t a very mature Christian. Maybe they were not a very mature person. I’m not saying they were or weren’t. Maybe they didn’t know wasn’t something they should do. Maybe they didn’t know exactly how to put into words what they felt and knew in their hearts, or how they wanted to set this community up? Does it make it right? No, but before you make a statement and/or judgment about something or someone you might want to find out all the facts first.

In all honesty no one here except for the person who did this knew what had happened, and to be perfectly honest, statistically speaking someone else or some other group has copied your site as well. I apologize for what has happened, and I assure you that it will be rectified.

I'm ok with it being public if you want. As to the PM, I tried sending a PM, but got hung up on the "you can't post links for 7 days." Then I thought about introducing myself without bringing up the problem right away, but felt that would have been false...and beating around the bush is always a bad investment of time.

I recognize that it's startling to meet someone you've never heard of, and then find out they are upset in your direction. It was, as I said before, startling to "meet you" for the first time through your website and find so many instances of copying. Knowing that I might stir up some trouble, I waited a couple days, read some of your forums and listened to a podcast, to see what I might be getting into. So you guys seem reasonable enough, I felt I could open the door right off the bat...and despite some initial sparks, I think we're on the way to resolution.

I know that the urge to defend what you have already is strong- epecially since SoG has had this content for 3 years, and with regard to "copyrighting the gospel", I can give a bit on that, I would not have complained if it was only that...but its not just that, it was the homepage, that, and about 3 or 4 other things.

Nichols, I want to say that I do appreciate your taking time to help, and your pledge to make adjustments. If you want to buy some time- you do NOT have to rewrite your "Ask for Christ" as long as you credit teamsoc.net at the end. I really don't care about the rules and guidelines-if you want to rewrite those, do them last, please. My primary request is for the Homepage, that it be rewritten, and the FAQ's.

To whoever made the decision, I'm guessing Wiggly Dot, why didn't you just ask us? We're typically a generous group. Its so much more enjoyable to give than forgive.

Hey rennis..I will come out and say i am sorry for taking some of you guys clans stuff..as i was farely new in becoming a Christian..and i really didn't know how to put into words excactly what i wanted to say..a friend of mine told me to go to your website..and kinda go by what u had..I did take some things yes..and i will change it with no problem..i mean i did this 3 years ago..i never really thought to change it..I don't want you to come of wrong with SoG..i just kinda needed some help on how to state the things i wanted..and again i am sorry if i upset you..i didn't mean to..and you are right i shoulnd't have taken some of you guys stuff off your site..i am not the leader of SoG..as we do not have a leader..we are all equal here..i am just one of the founders here..again i am sorry if i upset you..and everyone in SoG..i am sorry also..

I just want to say thank you for the changes and how quickly they were done. When I first came to yoru site about a week ago, I was upset by the copying, but hopeful that our clans could become friends. I did not know the circumstances around how the site was created, nor did I know you, Wiggly Dot.

But now, with the changes, the response from m87nichols, but most importanly, reading your explanation and apology, which I totally accept without reservation, I understand, I forgive, and I hope that you accept my respect, and props, for your honesty and for your actions which testify to God's awesome grace.

Now, I'm curious what is SoG doing lately? Games, Podcasts, Biblestudies? How many active peeps are in the clan/ hanging out with you guys. What days of the week do you usually hang out. (BTW, I read, listened enough to know that some or many of you have kids- me too- sometimes I just disappear without warning from a game because of it.)

most game about everynight around 11. The Podcast is going through some change. We always take a break from biblestudies over the summer. We havn't had a tournament in a long time. Probably will do one in oct. other than that not much is going on

holy wow batman. Seems as though I don't frequent the forums enough as I totally missed this wonderful discussion. A shame too, cause I would have put an end to it in one post.

Hey Dot... let me know if you need any help w/ any of this junk. I'll hook you up w/ the stuff I made for HCG's forums as far as rules go. You'd just need to change the 'HCG' to SoG and you'd be set.
