PostSubject: Calling Nerd Herd!!!   Thu Dec 16, 2010 10:41 am

or anyone that knows about networking etc...

I've got an ongoing issue with my internet.
History/setup: I have a wireless ISP (live in the country). Signal hits antenna on my parents house, then runs into a router. Splits 4 ways one of which runs 250' to our office and into a hub. Splits 4 ways again one of which runs 50' to my house and into a hub where it is split into two.
So my house is at the limit of a 300 - 350' run. I have my PC and xbox hooked up. I've never had awesome speeds, partly b/c of the isp and partly (i think) b/c of the long run of line.

Here's the deal though, about 2-3 months ago (and maybe longer) my internet just started to deteriorate. Now, I can't use it on my PC at all and I thought I had a virus or something b/c it would work for a minute or two then just crap out on me. I can't even load google now. So I ran scans and cleaners of all kinds and no viruses found and fixed all the junk but the problem persists.

The thing that really gets me is the xbox. It will just disconnect me from xblive w/out warning and I can't log back in for at least 30 min. When I start up my box and sign in it rarely connects and I run a test connection; it works fine after that(until it boots me).

I hooked my wife's laptop up to the connection that goes to my xbox and it works without problems. I tried to hook it up to the pc cable but the battery died. I can understand my old PC not working correctly but the xbox is the stick in the spokes and I don't understand why it doesn't work properly.

Any ideas???

In our house we got U-verse. For the one long run we have...if we turn on a heater or vacuum or anything in that room or in the plugs the TV is in, then it is a goner. Bad signal, etc...

Not sure where you live, but 2-3 months ago may have been the start of cold for you, thus heaters, thus noise on the lines.

Probably not it, but something to consider!
